HOLBORN TOWN HOUSE - LISTED
The clients wished to turn this Grade II* listed building previously occupied by a number of solicitors offices into a Central London family home. The main building has been stripped of all remnants of its previous use. In addition to the usual challenges of working on a listed building the structure was full of oversized steel beams and posts, these have been removed or replaced to accommodate the new layout.
The main roof has been renewed with Welsh slate and lead gutters. The front facade has been entirely re-pointed with lime tuck pointing. The existing 20th Century rear extension has been demolished and the replacement houses the kitchen which is built around a double height atrium and tiled terrace. The extensive glazing in this area includes sliding doors accessing the terrace and a glazed walkway providing a link to the main house.
Water proofing throughout the basement has created space in the existing vaults for a gym and utility room.
